Robert Mugabe, the son of the late Zimbabwean dictator of the same name, was arrested last week for driving down a one-way street in the wrong direction.
When police searched the 33 year old’s silver Honda Fit, they found two grams of cannabis, worth $30, Rizla rolling papers and a small grinder in a sling bag.
Mugabe Jr, a lanky sportsman who once represented Zimbabwe in basketball, was remanded in custody after his arrest on 2 October 2025.
Legal Brief Africa reports that police arrested three other men who they claim were part of a syndicate that included the young Mugabe. They were detained in Harare after they were found with 25 sachets of an Indica hybrid and six ecstacy tablets.
Mugabe was released on bail of $300 on 4 October 2025 while investigations continue.
This is not his first brush with the law. In 2023 he was arrested for damaging property at a party and spitting at a police officer. No charges were pressed as he came to an out-of-court settlement with the complainant.
Former President Robert Mugabe Snr died in 2019 at the age of 95, two years after being forced to resign after 37 years in power.
Mugabe Snr had always expressed disappointment with Mugabe Jnr for his bad behaviour and disinterest in education, nicknaming him ‘The Undertaker’ for getting the worst class grades in his A Level exams.
