Ghana Looks to Israel for High Tech Solutions to Developing its Cannabis Industry

Ghana is exploring avenues of high-tech collaboration with Israel in the development of its cannabis industry. The chairman of business association Channacham Dr Mark Darko, says Ghana could learn a lot from how Israel has developed its cannabis industry, particularly in areas of technology and productivity.

Although Ghana’s focus is on developing its industrial cannabis as its main strategy, the chairman of the Chamber of Cannabis Industry – Ghana (Cannacham), Dr Darko says there are high value opportunities in medical cannabis, and for this reason Ghana wants to strengthen collaboration with Israeli companies.

“We are not just talking about the cultivation of cannabis; we are talking about integrating cutting edge technologies – smart irrigation systems, precision agriculture, genetic optimization and advanced pharmaceutical applications. These innovations will ensure that Ghana’s cannabis industry operates at the highest international standards and its competitive on the global scales” says Darko.

Ghana’s cannabis collaboration with Israel follows a meeting between the two countries on 26 September 2025 when the Israeli Economic and Trade Mission to Ghana, in collaboration with the Chamber of Cannabis Industry Ghana (Cannacham), hosted their first forum on the cannabis industry in Accra.

The forum, organized under the theme “Transforming Ghana’s Cannabis Industry – Integrating Israeli Technologies to Advance Ghana’s Cannabis Sector”, focused on fostering dialogue, knowledge exchange and showcased practical demonstrations of various technological opportunities in Israel and Ghana.

Participating Israeli companies include Azrom Agriculture Inovations, Eybna, RCK – Science based cannabis genetics, MyCrops, and the Cannasoul Group.

The Ambassador Designate to Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone, Roey Gilad, says Israel is looking to strengthen its trade opportunities with Africa, and cannabis is one of the sectors where it can build a relationship from the ground up.

Ghana has also been calling on Morocco for cannabis mentorship as it seeks to craft a regulatory regime of its own.
