Traditional doctor (T)/Dr Sharon Price passed away on 12 June 2026.
The Founder and Co-Owner of Carol’s Oil was well-known throughout the cannabis industry for her research, teachings and treatments and her knowledge of the cannabis plant, particularly in medical extraction.
The tribute below from Rolling Stoner:
“She was more than a medical cannabis specialist. T/Dr Price was an educator, researcher, guide, and advocate who helped bring care, credibility, and compassion into a space that has often been misunderstood. Through her work with Carol’s Oil, T/Dr Price played an important role in opening conversations around cannabis, medical cannabis usage, holistic health, and the endocannabinoid system.
Her work helped many people see cannabis without the usual fear or stigma, but through the lens of science, support, and patient well-being.
T/Dr Price understood that education was one of the most powerful tools in changing the future of medical cannabis in South Africa. Her work helped move cannabis out of the shadows of stigma and into more informed, clinically focused conversations.
Through Carol’s Oil and her wider educational work, she supported a more responsible understanding of cannabis, plant extraction, dosing, patient monitoring, and the endocannabinoid system.
Her voice helped give healthcare professionals, patients, and families a more careful way to speak about cannabis.
It encouraged people to move beyond fear, assumption, and recreational stereotypes, and instead ask better questions about safety, quality, dosage, and patient well-being.
One of the most meaningful parts of T/Dr Price’s legacy was her human approach.
Medical cannabis often becomes part of a person’s life during difficult moments. People may be searching for relief, support, clarity, or simply another option when conventional routes feel limited.
T/Dr Price understood that.
Her work carried as much compassion as knowledge, recognising the human story behind the questions posed by patients in need of an alternative solution.
This is what made her contribution so important and has left a lasting impact on many in the cannabis industry:
T/Dr Price was part of a wider shift in South Africa’s cannabis landscape.
Her work helped support a more responsible understanding of cannabis and medical cannabis usage. Instead of treating cannabis as something simple or one-dimensional, she helped show its complexity.
In doing so, she helped change the way many people think about the plant, its potential, and its place in wellness.
The loss of T/Dr Price will be felt by many.
However, her legacy does not end with her passing. It continues in the knowledge she shared. T/Dr Price helped plant something important in South Africa’s medical cannabis landscape.
That work will continue to grow.”
Sharon Price’s family put out the following message to the cannabis community:
“It is with a very heavy heart that we share the heartbreaking news that our beloved Sharon Price’s journey on this earth came to an end on Friday, 12 June. Sharon was so much more than a family member, friend, and community figure. She was a source of love, strength, healing, and hope to so many. Her life’s work was shaped by compassion, connection, and the deep love she carried for those around her. As her family, friends, and community come to terms with this sudden and immense loss, we want you to know that this is not the end of what Sharon built. She lived with purpose, courage, and a vision far bigger than herself, and her impact will continue through the people and projects she poured her heart into.
Mischa, together with her small team, will continue Sharon’s work and do everything they can to honour her legacy with the same love, care, and dedication Sharon gave so freely.”
