The African Cannabis (TAC) Museum is to open in Cape Town later this year, and as part of its founding phase, the organizers are inviting designers and artists from across South Africa to participate in a national logo design competition,
They are offering a R10 000 cash prize, VIP Museum Membership and recognition as a founding creative contributor for the museum, in what is described as “a rare opportunity to contribute to the identity of a first-of-its-kind institution”.
Participants are encouraged to submit concepts that reflect:
– African heritage
– Cultural significance
– Education and legacy
Further details and entry information are available via the museum’s official website tacmuseum.co.za
When Cannabiz Africa made contact with the the organizers via their site, they were reticent to provide too many details about who the TAC Team consisted of, exhibit images or where the museum will be located.
“At this stage we’re being quite deliberate about what we release publicly, so we’re not circulating images just yet, it’s part of building the right momentum around the project.” The TAC team said in response to our query.
“ We will be sharing visuals in a more structured way as development progresses, and will be very happy to include Cannabiz Africa in that first round” .
So this is what is being revealed for now as per their mail to Cannabiz Africa
“In terms of the team, the project is being driven by a founding group with strong commercial and operational experience, supported by a growing network of industry contributors and collaborators. The level of interest and engagement has been significant, and we are in the process of formalising additional partnerships and advisory roles as the project evolves.
“Cape Town was a natural choice given its position as one of South Africa, and Africa’s, leading tourism destinations. Our focus being securing a high-visibility, tourism-aligned location. While finalisation is still in progress, the intention is to create a space that is both accessible and impactful from a visitor experience perspective.
“From a content perspective, the museum is being structured as a multi-zone experience, covering African cannabis history, cultural narratives, policy evolution, the broader uses of the plant (including non-psychoactive and industrial applications), and a strong forward-looking component focused on education, innovation, and the future of the sector.
“Importantly, the museum is a cultural and educational space: it will not be a venue for cannabis sales or consumption.
“At its core, this is a public-facing cultural project. The logo competition forms part of that, giving people the opportunity to contribute to the identity of something that is being built for the continent, not just for a single audience.
The museum itself is being developed through private support and strategic partnerships, with opportunities for aligned organisations and individuals to be involved as founding contributors as the project progresses.
Happy to keep you updated as things develop, and to share more as we move into the next phase.”
So there we have it. Designers – your deadline is 20 May 2026.
