The first Angola-Botswana Business Forum was held in Luanda on 8 September 2026 as the two countries seek to promote closer economic ties between private sector institutions.
Botswana’s Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship, Tiroyaone Ntsima (pictured here), told the gathering of leading business people from both countries, that Botswana’s stable economic landscape and guarantees of security for investors, made it an attractive investment destination.
He said Botswana was aiming to increase the agricultural sector’s contribution to GDP from its current level of less than 2% to around 6%. Although the primary investment opportunities were in traditional meat, fruit and vegetable production, businesses should look further into what Botswana had to offer.
He said Botswana’s new legal cannabis framework allowed for the cultivation and processing of cannabis, primarily for export. He said the opportunities in cannabis were in the pharmaceutical sector as well as in agroprocessing of industrial hemp.
Ntsima said Botswana wanted to add value to raw products, particularly foodstuff for export as well as reducing imports such as fish.
The minister also reiterated the need to strengthen business cooperation between Angola and Botswana with a view to creating partnerships that contribute to economic diversification and job creation.
