A well-known courier company is said to be under investigation after this week’s major cannabis bust in Linbro Park, Gauteng. JMPD officers allegedly found evidence of the company’s packaging during their raid (pictured here, courtesy SAPS) in which 52 bales of cannabis with an estimated street value of R21 million was seized.
Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) officers uncovered a major cannabis storage facility at a unit Linbro Park office park unit. Two men were arrested during the operation and a total of 52 ‘bales’ of cannabis with an estimated street value of R21 million was confiscated.
EWN reports that a JMPD tactical reaction unit intercepted a Renault on the M2 on Thursday night (2 October 2025) after a tip-off. There was a high-speed chase in the direction of Cleveland before the officers managed to force the car to pull over.
In the vehicle the metro police found two bales of cannabis and a firearm with 13 rounds of ammunition. The two occupants of the car were persuaded to co-operate and led the officers to the storage unit in Linbro Park in northern Johannesburg where 50 more bales of cannabis were found. Police estimate the street value of each bale was R400 000 and the professional nature of the packaging suggested that organized crime was involved.
The two men arrested are to be charged with dealing with ‘illegal’ substances. The cannabis was sent to Sandringham police station to be ‘processed’.
Johannesburg Public Safety MMC Mgcini Tshwaku said there would be a probe into the courier company as part of an investigation of syndicates involved in the transportation of drugs. He said “most of the bales of marijuana were wrapped with a particular courier company’s packaging material” and police would find out to what extent the company itself was involved.
