Just How Many Kilos of Contraband Cannabis can a Quantum Carry?

If we’re going for the record books here, just how much cannabis can be transported in a Toyota Quantum? It would be hard to beat the challenge from Mpumulanga this week, in which a minibus taxi stopped by police near Graskop was found to be carrying 1 025,36 kg of bagged weed.

Two men have been arrested in connection with what SAPS says was a ‘massive bust’ outside the Mpumalanga highveld town of Graskop on Wednesday, 6 May 2026.

Acting on a ‘credible tip-off’ , SAPS stopped a ‘suspicious’ Toyota Quantum with Mpumalanga license plates, travelling on the scenic road near God’s Window.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Captain Mpho Nonyane-Mpe said a subsequent search of the taxi led to the discovery of several bags of dagga, weighing approximately 1 025.36kg. He estimated the street value to be in the region of R6 million.

“The two suspects, aged 26 and 28, were arrested on the spot. They face charges of possession of dagga and dealing in dagga and will appear in court soon,” she said.

The story was posted on SAPS Facebook, and among the comments it attracted were several wondering how secure all that cannabis will be under police storage, given accusations that elements within the police are actively dealing in drugs.

So the supplementary question to how many kilos can a Quantum carry, is how long will the confiscated stash last in police storage? Any bets?
